About this Event




On the second Sunday of every month beginning December, 2020 we will enjoy one of the most iconic beaches in the world, walking and meditating to support mental health. This moving meditation is a community walk that will give you an opportunity to slow down and reconnect to your surroundings and yourself. When we come together as individuals to nurture our own mental health, we create opportunity for that to have a ripple effect on those around us.

The benefits of walking mindfully, or as a moving meditation, allow us to find stillness in the present moment. We are constantly being distracted by thoughts and text messages so Staley Health want to help you to connect stillness and the present moment, allowing you to connect more deeply with yourself and the world around you.

We will start the morning with a short meet and greet, including a little bit of guided instruction about how to walk mindfully. I will then guide you through a 30 minute silent walk along the Torquay Beach walking track or on the beach if it's warm. Along the way you will encounter mindful reminders to bring you back to the present moment through the ignition of various sensory experiences.

After your mindful walk experience you will be invited to join your fellow walkers at Growlers Torquay to share your experience and enjoy a cuppa. No prior meditation experience is necessary.

The walk will begin at Fisherman's Beach outside The Salty Dog Cafe 50 The Esplanade, Torquay meeting outside at 9:00am and finishing up at Growlers Cafe 23 The Esplanade, Torquay at 10am to share your experience with other mindful walkers.

Where to Go: The Mindful Walk meeting point is at The Salty Dog at 9:00am which is at 50 The Esplanade, Torquay.

When to Arrive: Registrations are open from 8:45am (no need to bring your ticket), with the event beginning at 9:00am. The official part of the morning will finish around 10:00am, however we invite you to stay around and hang about with us at Growlers for a cuppa and to share your experience.

What to Bring:

  • We ask that you take some time out for just yourself and leave your pets and bubs / small children at home (and experience the joy coming home to your little ones and four-legged friends a much more mindful being!)
  • Please keep your belongings to a minimum, however a small backpack is a great option if you would like to bring a water bottle or other items with you on the walk. There will be an opportunity to purchase a drink or coffee at The Salty Dog if you would like at the beginning of the walk.
  • Comfy shoes and warm clothes, wet weather gear if it is raining, a hat and sun protection if the sun is shining. If it is warm, we will walk along the beach and take off our shoes.

What happens in the event of bad weather or other unexpected event?

We plan to continue, irrespective of rain, and use mother nature's choice of weather as part of our whole mindful experience! However, in the very unlikely circumstance that the event must be cancelled (due to COVID-19 or very bad weather) a cancellation email will be sent out and we will update our website with details. If you are no longer able to attend the event, please feel free to pass your 'ticket' onto a friend (they will just need to register with your name).

Cost: This event is free and the only cost involved is for purchasing any food or drinks you would like before and after the event.
