The Shared Table: Indian Cooking & the Six Tastes

The Shared Table: Indian Cooking & the Six Tastes

Date: Saturday 8 August

Time: 10.30am – 1.30pm

Location: Ngutungka Henley

Food is an expression of love, nourishing the body, mind and soul. Cooking and sharing meals brings people together, creating space for connection, conversation and community through shared experiences.

These workshops are inspired by the principles of Ayurvedic cooking, a holistic approach that recognises how food influences our physical health, energy and wellbeing. By balancing flavours, colours, textures and spices, Ayurvedic cooking supports harmony in the body while celebrating the joy of preparing food together.

In this workshop we explore the rich traditions of Indian cooking, where food is deeply connected to wellbeing. A traditional saying reminds us that “As is the food, so is the mind.”

Together we will cook a vegetarian meal inspired by the traditional Indian Thali, a style of dining that includes a variety of dishes representing the six tastes — sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent — creating balance and harmony in a meal.

Cook, connect and enjoy the vibrant flavours of India.

Part of The Shared Table: Cooking Cultures Together series.

The City of Charles Sturt would like to acknowledge the land we occupy today is the traditional lands of the Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their country. We also acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the greater Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.
