ACMI presents

Birthright

Zoe Pepper's debut feature offers a sharp black comedy for millennials and something closer to a horror for the boomer generation.

Cory (Travis Jeffery) and his heavily pregnant partner Jasmine (Maria Angelico) are en route to his empty-nester parents' house for lunch. Parents Richard and Lyn have hit their stride in later life and are happily stuck in a rut, so when Cory asks if they can stay for a couple of days, both feel put out.

Unbeknownst to them, Cory and Jasmine have packed all of their belongings into their hatchback and have designs on a much longer and disruptive stay.

Curator’s Note
Parents, beware! Zoe Pepper’s debut feature film is a black comedy with its finger firmly on the zeitgeisty pulse.

Housing crisis: check. Cost of living crisis: check. Generational wealth gap: delivered in spades. Birthright walks surefootedly down a darkly comedic line, delivering a hilarious film for millennials and what might be close to a horror for baby boomers.

Birthright premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

A cathartically chaotic debut feature ... that locks horns with the manufactured housing and cost-of-living crises
