Powerful and Thought Provoking.
Join our guide for a powerful, thought provoking and emotive tour of Reconciliation Place on Ngunnawal country in the National Triangle. Learn about Kanberri, the meeting place, where families gathered for storytelling, celebrations and yarns at mealtime, using ingenious ancient stone cooking methods.
Hear the sounds of bogong moths migrating as you walk through the stunning Fire & Water Sculpture and into the misting pool in a celebration of water, earth and fire.
Allow for deep reflection for the children of the Stolen Generation. There are quotes from some of the children asking that all Australian acknowledge the truth of their history, to enable them to move forward together on their journey of healing. Another sculpture close by features poignant waterfalls, symbolising the tears of the mothers whose children were taken away.
See the cheeky Man & Woman Yam which highlights the simple philosophy of food being a great connector. Read the simple statement Come together – sit down – share a yam.The Strength, Service & Sacrifice sculpture celebrates the enormous contribution the First Nation’s people made to defending our country at war and at sport.
Hear stories of amazing indigenous people and events including Neville Bonner, who served in Parliament for 12 years. Eddie Mabo, who fought to win back the land rights to the island of Mer in the Torres Strait. Learn about the Wave Hill Walk Off that began the Aboriginal land rights movement and the first referendum in which over 90% of Australian voters said “YES”.
See the stunning Stone Artworks with the Murray Cod, Rainbow Serpent and Alice Springs Dreaming, with its caterpillar, carpet snake man and honey and moon man.
