On the Farm - Animal Care Club!

Mondays | 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

9-Week Term

$160 per term first child, $120 per term for each subsequent child from same family.

Located inside the Australiana Pioneer Village 10 Rose st, Wilberforce.

Are your kids passionate about animals and eager to experience farm life firsthand? Enroll in our exciting after-school program where children aged 5 to 17 will get hands-on experience tending to goats, chickens, ducks, quails, and bunnies —just like real farmers!

Week 1

📅 Monday 27th July

🔥 Campfire Connections – Welcome to the Farm

A warm and relaxed introduction to the term. Children will explore the farm, meet and feed our animals, discover our permaculture systems, and build new friendships as they settle into the Animal Care Club. We’ll finish by gathering around the campfire to enjoy hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows while getting to know one another.

Week 2

🌱 Growing Animal Fodder – Food for Our Farm Friends

Children will learn that healthy animals need healthy food. We’ll explore the different foods eaten by chickens, ducks, quails, rabbits and goats and discover how farmers can grow nutritious animal fodder. Together we'll sow seeds that will be grown and planted out later in the term to help feed our farm animals.

Week 3

🐐 Goat Care, Baby Goats & Enrichment

Children will learn how to care for goats, including our newborn baby goats. We’ll feed, groom and observe our goats while learning to perform simple health checks. Together we'll brush the goats, help muck out the stable and create enrichment treats and activities that keep our goats healthy, happy and entertained.

Week 4

🐓🍳 From Farm to Plate – Farm Fresh Cooking

Children will learn where food comes from and explore the journey from animal care to the food we eat. We’ll discuss ethical food production, animal welfare and respecting the animals that help feed us while collecting fresh eggs from our chickens, harvesting vegetables from the garden and preparing a simple farm-fresh meal together in the bush kitchen.

🐣 Hatching Chicks – The Miracle of Life

Children will learn how eggs develop into chicks and explore the incubation process. We’ll candle fertile eggs to observe embryo development, discuss the different stages of chick growth and prepare our incubator as we begin our chicken hatching project.

Week 6

🐥🦆 Ducks, Quails, Chickens & Egg Candling

Children will compare the unique needs of ducks, quails and chickens while learning about egg candling and observing developing eggs. We’ll explore what different poultry species eat, how they behave and what they need to stay healthy and happy while creating a cabbage piñata, mealworm soup and soldier fly larvae taco treats for our feathered friends. We'll also candle our eggs and record the exciting changes taking place inside during incubation.

🐥 Hatch Day – Welcoming New Life

Children will witness one of nature’s most incredible events as our chicks begin hatching from their eggs. We’ll learn about the final stages of chick development, why chicks need to remain safely inside the incubator during lockdown, and what happens during the first few days after hatching. Together we'll observe chicks pipping and emerging from their shells through the incubator viewing window and record our observations in a chick hatch journal.

🧼🐐 Goat Milk Soap Making

Children will discover how goat milk can be transformed into useful products while learning about the benefits of goat milk soap. Together we'll make and decorate our own goat milk soap bars to take home.

Week 9 (Final Week)

🌱🌞 Spring Equinox Celebration – Growing for Our Animals

Children will celebrate the arrival of spring and the end of term by planting out the animal fodder seedlings they sowed back in Week 2. We’ll learn how these nutritious plants will help feed our farm animals in the months ahead, spend time feeding and visiting the animals, and reflect on everything we've learned throughout the term. We'll finish with a special campfire celebration, sharing hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows together while celebrating a wonderful season of animal care and learning.

Each week, your child will also:

•Feed, water, and care for our farm animals

•Groom the goats and play with the baby goats

•Cuddle the chickens, collect the eggs and tend to any baby chicks

•Tend to the quails and collect any eggs

•Help with maintaining the animal enclosures and putting down fresh bedding

•Water the garden and discover farm life

•Perform health checks and learn about animal care

•Enjoy free play time with the animals

This program offers a unique chance for children to develop responsibility, gain valuable animal care skills, and enjoy outdoor adventures with new friends on our Permaculture farm. Children will not only learn the basics of animal care but will also develop important life skills like responsibility, teamwork, and empathy.

By engaging in tasks such as feeding, grooming, and performing health checks, kids will build problem-solving skills and confidence. This hands-on program also helps develop fine motor skills while fostering a deep connection to nature and sustainable living. It’s the perfect blend of fun, learning, and outdoor adventure!

  • Gardening gloves (Optional but recomended)

In case of wet weather- We will have under cover activities planned

In case of severe weather-

Such as- Extreme heat, dangerous storms etc... Classes may get canceled in the best interest of the health and safety of the children. If available, at the discretion of the facilitator, a makeup class may be offered in this instance.

If you are self-managed, we will provide you with an invoice for payment, once paid we will provide you with a receipt which you can submit it to NDIS for reimbursement.

If you are plan-managed, you can provide us with the name of the NDIS participant and their NDIS number. We will then provide you with an invoice and you can then submit it to your plan manager for payment
