Growing Healthy Communities - Week 3: Seeds of Resilience

Week 3: Seeds of Resilience

Tuesday 4th August

Jemma Stefanou facilitates hands-on introduction to raising seeds with confidence. explore store-bought versus local and commercial-grade seeds, seed provenance, and how to store seeds for lasting viability. Together we mix a seed-raising medium, both an accessible option and a premium farm recipe, then cover sowing and spacing, watering, fertilising and maintaining vigour through to transplanting.

Whether you've never planted a seed or you're looking to sharpen your technique, you'll leave with practical skills to raise strong, healthy seedlings at home.

This session is part of the Growing Healthy Communities program: A 6-Week Workshop Series

Growing Healthy Communities is a free six-week program bringing together uni students and the wider Carlton community to learn hands-on skills in the garden while building real connections along the way. Each week features a different guest speaker exploring themes of gardening, sustainability, and community resilience — from composting and growing food to creative reuse and everything in between.

You're welcome to come to a single session or join us for all six — however you'd like to be involved, there's a place for you. No experience necessary, just bring your curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

Hosted by Carlton Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
